This Thursday Dwight Ball will become the interim leader of the Liberal party of Newfoundland and Labrador. He will be their 5th leader in the past 8 years since they lost the government. While Ball is someone that is a good politician you can't help but say to yourself that this shows how low the Liberal brand has fallen in this province, when someone who has never won his seat by more than 58 votes and has less than a year of service as a MHA becomes your leader, you know something is wrong. Ball, a former pharmacist, is not going to make people vote Liberal. He's not going to make people pay attention to the party again. While the Liberal party really had no other choice but to put Ball in as leader I don't think, even if I was on the sidelines and an election was held next week I wouldn't vote for the Liberals with Dwight Ball as their leader. To me Ball and the rest of the Liberal party better hope that the Liberal's knight in shining armour is right around the corner (Dean Macdonald are you reading is what I think the Liberals are hoping) because if in 2015 Dwight Ball is the Liberal leader then the party's grasp on the #1 opposition party could be in jeopardy and we could see the NDP as the official opposition. Now just imagine if the Liberals had selected Eddie Joyce or another member of their caucus to be leader the comments I'd have as I do like Dwight Ball, it's just he's not someone I'd put as leader of a party.
